- Check your gear before you pack it.
- If you have a brand new tent, set it up before you bring it camping.
- Always dry out your gear before you put it away.
- Store you gear in the same place so you can find it again.
- Put your tent stakes bag in your tent pole bag so they stay together
- Drink water all day. Take a big drink of water before you go to bed and when you wake up.
- Layering with different type clothes will keep you warm.
- In the fall & winter, keep a pair of gloves and stocking cap in your camping gear.
- Wearing a stocking cap when you go to bed will keep you warm, 90% of your heat escapes through your head.
- Always go to bed wearing clean clothes. Even though your clothes you wore all day appears clean, they will be damp with perspiration and make you cold at night.
- We burn a lot of calories when we camp, a good menu is important.
- Use your scout book as a help or reminder on what you should bring.
- Washing your dishes according to the scout book will save you lots of misery later.
- Be responsible for your gear and the troop gear—it will last longer.
- Put your name in everything!
- No electronics allowed… your scout leader has a cell phone if something comes up.
- Pack minimally--don't need 3 pants for a weekend, a clean pair of socks for everyday is a must.
- Bring a towel, shower shoes, and small personal hygiene kit (toothbrush, paste, soap, etc.).
- Always carry a small piece of rope with you—about 6 feet.
- Wrap a piece of duct tape around your water bottle.
- Never have open food in your tent.
- Always use a ground cloth under your tent, it will protect your investment.
- Have a good attitude and spirit!
- Always use a mattress pad between your sleeping gear and the ground.
- Deposit your trash in the right location the FIRST time
- Don't soil your campsite with trash, dirty soapy water, bad habits…keep it clean for others.
- Don't bring stuff you can't afford to lose or break.
- Always carry a pack of cards for those rainy days.
- If sharing a tent, consider ear plugs.
- Bring small first aid kit.
- Maybe bring an energy bar.
- Respect those camping around us.
- Lights out means "lights out".
- If you can't whisper when lights go out, then don't talk.
- Leave the family tent at home.
